Journey Bar 16 August 2010

Task: Exploratory Design and Marketing Strategy, Front-End Development, WordPress Integration, SEO
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, PHP

When Chris approached me for this job, they weren’t sure how they wanted to market themselves, so I made the design on the right, as part of the exploratory process. Later we hired another designer to see what his interpretation would be, and then went with his.

We wanted to find a gender-neutral design, and then target a niche within the growing, homogeneous nutrition foods market. Chris’s very specific requests meant I had to check for cross-browser compatibility constantly.

R.H.Eisenbraun 2010

Task: Front-end and WordPress Theme Development
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, PHP, Ecmascript

I wanted my personal site to do two things: showcase my abilities, and let people get to know me. I consider a personal website a good alternative to Facebook. I kept the layout sparse, with only a few options for the user; most visitors won’t care which category of post they’re browsing, and the Log and Media links for navigation split the site strictly into its two intended purposes.

North Park Press November 2009

Task: Strategy, Front-end Development, WordPress Integration, SEO
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, PHP

The North Park University Student Association’s newspaper needed a website to prepare the students for a real life of journalism. I worked with them to find their needs and make their first move onto the Internet, familiarizing them with Twitter, Facebook integration, and basic web principles, as well as teaching the staff how to update and manage a website.

I integrated the Physics Department’s weather station into the design, giving the school’s current weather conditions in a fancy icon and temperature at the top, and made skylines out of Chicago’s downtown area and the school’s buildings. Since I finished my work and moved on, they now use something else.

Greg MacNair 2007

Task: Design, Front-End Development, Document Preparation
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS

This was a professional site for Greg MacNair’s commercial and fine art commissions. He wanted a very simple showcase of his work, that would let people see a wide selection, and close-up details, to admire his skill.

Lonely Monster January 2006

Task: Design, WordPress Integration, SEO
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, PHP

For my indie music production house, Lonely Monster, I also wanted a very sparse, no-nonsense site. Lonely Monster doesn’t turn out much product, so it seemed important to focus on the content. It isn’t a marketing powerhouse. It doesn’t put out artists who are going to play your coffee house. It’s a backwoods site with a few really good songs on it.

Joe Eisenbraun 2004

Task: Design, WordPress Integration
Tools: Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, PHP

This site is simply a site for a musician. Joe needed somewhere anyone could go and easily listen to a few songs and get an idea of who he is. Nothing more.
